Backlinks are incoming links to your website or blog. For example whenever someone leaves you a comment on your blog this is considered a backlink. The more comments you have the more backlinks you will have pointing to your site.
Drop your website or blog information to various search engines. This will also help you get indexed better. Comment on other blogs that are related to your niche. Every time you leave your url information it creates a backlink.
Using Social Sites is also a huge help. Sites like Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Digg, Yahoo, and Mixx are just some of the sites that you can add your links to. Keep in mind that Google will not raise your page rank if you create backlinks on sites that are considered spam.
Another place to add your backlink is in forums. People check forums all the time and many of your favorite communities have one. You can include your url in your signature so that every time you make a post you have created a backlink.
Add a share button to the top or bottom of your posts so your readers can spread the word.
